PRC-10 (Portable Radio Communication) is a handheld radio transceiver that was used by the US military during the Vietnam War in the 1960s. It was developed by Signal Communication Corporation in collaboration with the US Army Signal Corps. The PRC-10 was designed as a VHF radio system, covering the frequency range from 30 to 75 MHz. It operated in the FM (Frequency Modulation) mode and had a 200 kHz channel spacing.
The PRC-10 was powered by a single BA-279/U mercury battery and typically had a range of up to 10 miles in favorable conditions. It featured a whip antenna and a ruggedized metal casing that provided protection from the elements and rugged use in the field. The PRC-10 was used by US military personnel for ground-to-ground and ground-to-air communications.
The PRC-10 was eventually replaced by newer and more advanced tactical radios. However, it remains an important artifact of the Vietnam War and is still used by some military and amateur radio enthusiasts today.
